Conceived by Nicole Beutler, 1:Songs is a solo performance that has been going on for some time and which incorporates Brontë content:
1: SONGS is a solo performance presented as a concert, a Liederkreis, an existential exercise for a singing body. Theatre maker and performer Sanja Mitrovic surrenders her voice to the intense words of tragic female figures from the history of theatre, figures such as Antigone, Medea and Gretchen.
# Concept / Choreography Nicole Beutler
# Performance / Vocals Sanja Mitrovic
# Music Composition Gary Shepherd
The Brontë reference is mentioned in a recent review published by concertnieuws.be:
Solid electro sounds and a performer who exclaims in Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre: "Do you think I am an automaton? A machine without feelings? Can my possessions to bear and morsels of bread snatched from my lips, and my drop of living water dashed from my cup? Do you think, Because I am poor, obscure, plain, and little, I am soul-less and Heartless? You think wrong! I have as much soul as you and full as much heart! And if God had given me Gifted with beauty and much wealth Some, I Should Have made it as hard for you to leave me, as it is now for me to leave you. I am not talking to you now through the medium of custom, conventionalities, nor even or mortal flesh: it is my spirit That addresses your spirit, just as if bone healing was passed through the grave, and we Stood at God's feet, equal as we are "(Jane Mr. Rochester Chapter 23) (Bert Hertogs) (Translation by Google)
