We have an Advance Announcement from Imelda and David Marsden:
MIRFIELD'S THEMED BRONTË CHRISTMAS TO RAISE FUNDS FOR SEVERAL CHARITIES

Friday 26th November.
Literary Lunch at the Yorkshire Puddin' (Dubottle Lane, Mirfield) with speaker Helga Hughes, curator at Red House museum, Gomersal, to talk - with slides - about the lifelong school friendship from Roe Head school of Mary Taylor and Ellen Nussey with Charlotte Brontë. After lunch, Ian and Catherine Emberson, members of the Brontë Society, will read Brontë poetry and their own. This lunch is to raise funds for Holly Bank School (formerly Roe Head where the Brontë sisters attended) which is now a residence for severely disabled young people from 5 to 25 years, who are cared for and educated. A Brontë descendant of Patrick Brontë's sister Sarah will be present. She will be switching on the Mirfield's Christmas lights with a young ill child. The lunch will cost £25.

Sunday 28th November.
Brontë walk in the footsteps of the Brontës will start at 1pm near Holly Bank school, at the side Whitleys Garden centre across from the school. The route covers the way they walked to Mirfield Parish church, St Mary's, then goes around the former Blake Hall site of which only the coach house and a lodge remain. Then it's back to the church hall for refreshments and food and a look at a small exhibition about the history of the church and its Brontë connection. The walk is to be led by the local Ramblers Association.

Friday 3rd December.
A full Brontë evening programme at St Paul's church, East Thorpe, Mirfield, will start at 7.30pm. With the History Wardrobe and their Jane Eyre: The Well Dressed Governess talk. During the interval Christmas hymns will be sung. Then London vocalist Val Wiseman is to sing from her Brontë album Keeping the Flame Alive, a tribute to the Brontë family. Tickets cost £8 and the money raised is for two local children's charities: Holly Bank school and the Huddersfield children's Hospice, The Forget Me Not Trust. Other events include: a Brontë Ball and a short play with a quiz. Also a quiz at The Old Colonial Club, Mirfield, on the Luddites, to raise funds for Help the Heroes.

Lots more things to see and do at the shops with Brontë-dressed window displays as well as the local Art Gallery, a children's writing and design a programme for the Full Brontë Evening competitions.
