The hottest Brontë sister

Another news outlet joining Austen and Brontë references is The Scotsman. Scotland on Sunday:

Life, as you all know, is short, but not so fleeting that Martin Amis can't find time to contribute to a new anthology on why, after 200 years, we're still obsessed with Jane Austen. His particular angle is to imagine a sex scene between Mr Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet. No doubt he'll soon grace us with his opinions about which of the Brontë sisters was hottest and on which page to find the really mucky bit in Finnegans Wake. It strikes me that one of the reasons Austen is still so influential and admired is her sly, wry capacity to leave some things unsaid. (Stuart Kelly)

The anthology in question is A Truth Universally Acknowledged: 33 Great Writers on Why We Read Jane Austen, by the way.

The Australian reviews another book, Trespass by Rose Tremain, and concludes:

A clash of primal and pedestrian evils, it can be enjoyed on this level alone, but the genre is capable of great and tragic characters, such as Heathcliff and Miss Haversham, and just yesterday I forgot Anthony Verey's name. (Kathy Hunt)

The Scotsman briefly touches upon Laura Marling's Brontëiteness in a review of her latest album, I Speak Because I Can.
