A press release from the
Brontë Parsonage Museum:
An Afternoon with Persephone Books
Nicola Beauman, founder of Persephone Books, will be visiting Haworth to talk about Persephone and the books that they publish. The event will take place on Wednesday 24 March at 2pm, at the West Lane Baptist Centre and forms part of the Brontë Parsonage Museum’s contemporary arts programme.
Persephone Books reprints neglected novels, diaries, short stories and cookery books by women writers and mostly dating from the early to mid-twentieth century. Nicola Beauman will be speaking about Persephone, how they select the books and about some of the authors.
One of the most popular and best-loved Persephone titles is Winifred Watson’s Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, which was made into a film in 2008 starring Amy Adams and Frances McDormand.
There will be a selection of Persephone titles available for sale at the event.
‘What I value about Persephone Books is the sense of being guided by someone you come to trust. It’s like belonging to a rather exclusive book club’. Daily Telegraph
‘A gorgeous enterprise which publishes near-lost books in exquisite style’ Time Out.
Admission will be £3 on the door. For further information contact the Bronte Parsonage Museum’s Arts Officer: jenna.holmes@bronte.org.uk / 01535 640188.
