More alerts for today, Saturday November 14:

3. From Sydney, Australia. An alert from the Australian Brontë Association:
Scenes from Shirley
November 14th 10:30 AM

Pamela Whalan has written and directed many plays, both in Sydney and in Newcastle. She will be adapting a couple of scenes from Shirley and will be bringing a couple of actors from Newcastle to perform them. Hopefully this will inspire much discussion and there’ll be opportunity for us all to talk about our impressions of the novel. This is the nearest thing we’ve had to a “book of the year” and you’ll get a lot more out of the performance and discussion if you’ve read the book beforehand.
4. A masterclass with Rob Lane, composer (and BAFTA nominee) of Jane Eyre 2006:
Screened Music Masterclass with Rob Lane
Saturday, Nov 14 2009
Time: 14:30 - 18:30
Hackney Ocean, London

One of the most versatile and in demand composers working today, Rob Lane has won no less than six major awards for his work and received nominations for a further eight. Three Ivor Novellos, a BAFTA and two RTS Awards have confirmed his ability to write distinctive music for any genre, whether psychological thriller or quirky comedy, action-adventure or political docu-drama. Equally at home writing for orchestra or working with samples, his aim is always to create boldly cinematic music that intimately supports and enhances the drama on-screen. (...)
Rob will talk about his career and demonstrate working practices, illustrated by clips of his work, in this in-depth seminar. The main event will be followed at 6.30pm by an opportunity to have a drink and network with fellow composers, music writers and musicians.
