Two one (wo)man Brontë-related shows on both sides of the pond:
1. In Ridgemont, California:
CLOTA’s Center Stage Readers Theater
Janis Jamison to bring Charlotte Brontë Up Close & Personal
Brontë
by William Luce
Directed by Bill Blanc
Narrated by Greg Coté
Next month’s Readers Theatre audiences should be prepared to be swept back to the stormy Yorkshire moors of 1849 and into the presence of the author of that grandmother of gothic romances, Jane Eyre. Janis Jamison, radiant star of CLOTA’s “Sweeney Todd” “Man of La Mancha,” “Gypsy” and “The Spitfire Grill” – to name just a few—will animate the turbulent heart and mind of Charlotte Bronte in a reading of William Luce’s stirring one-woman biographical drama, “Bronte” on November 14th and 15th 2009 at the
CLOTA Center Stage, 1425 N. Inyo.
The reading of “Bronte” is free, however all donations will be greatly appreciated and accepted the night of the reading.
The
Ridgecrest Daily Independent has more information:
There will be only one person on stage, but local theatergoers will be treated to nearly 20 different characters when the Community Light Opera and Theater Association's Readers Theatre presents "Brontë" on Nov. 14 and 15. Award-winning singer-actress Janis Jamison will star in a reading of the entertaining one-woman play focused on famed novelist Charlotte Brontë.
In addition to the central figure, the renowned creator of the gothic masterpiece “Jane Eyre,” Jamison will bring to life members of the 19th-century household on the moors of northern England where Charlotte Brontë grew up, plus a diverse score of colorful individuals who impacted her life at significant moments.
2. In
Burwash, Etchingham, East Sussex, UK at Bateman's:
Father of the Brontës
Colin Pinney, as the Reverend Patrick Bronte, reveals the story of Patrick's son Bramwell Bronte and his famous sisters: Charlotte who wrote Jane Eyre and three other novels: Emily author of Wuthering Heights: and Anne who wrote Agnes Grey and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. Such were the times that all three were forced to pretend they were male authors. Followed by a two course lunch.
