Charlotte Riley as Cathy is the beautiful, free-spirited foil to Tom Hardy's suitably brooding Heathcliff, who delivers Peter Bowker's script in pseudo-Shakespearean style. However, through modern eyes the story appears both over-complex and lacking credibility. But if the middle Bronte's work is your thing and you are willing to suspend your disbelief a little more than usual, you'll pass a pleasant couple of hours with this two-part moorland melodrama.
