A press release of Brontë Parsonage Museum:
SUMMER EVENTS AT THE BRONTË PARSONAGE MUSEUM

The Brontë Parsonage Museum will host a series of summer events for visitors and families at the museum this August, including poetry and picnics, storytelling, free walks and talks, arts and crafts activities and more.

Poetry and Picnics

Bring your own picnic to enjoy on the Parsonage lawn on one of our creative poetry days at the museum this summer. Yorkshire Dales Ice-Cream will be on site for the three days, selling ice-cream fresh from their local dairy:

On Tuesday 11 August, poets Sarah Hymas and Sue Wood will be working at the museum for the day, engaging with visitors and creating fun poetry-based activities for visitors and families. Have a go at creating your own poem, or simply enjoy the poetry readings in the garden at various times throughout the day.

On Saturday 15 August, poet Mark Ward will be reading from his latest collection Thunder Alley in the grounds of the museum, while local storyteller Peter Findlay will be entertaining children and families with his very silly songs at various times throughout the day.

Another creative poetry day on Friday 21 August will see poets Jane Commane and Char March offering activities for families and visitors to enhance their visit to the museum. Come and explore the museum in extreme close-up using a magnifying glass, or create your own Brontë-style story in less than 50 words!

Wild Wednesdays!

Each Wednesday throughout August there will be a variety of activities on offer for visitors to the museum. There will be free talks, or short guided walks, to find out more about the Brontë family and Haworth every Wednesday throughout the day.

On the afternoon of Wednesday 5 August, community artist Vic Buta will also be holding a free drop in arts & crafts workshop, Firefly! - make your own tiny creature of the sky to take home with you. Vic Buta is back again on the afternoon of Wednesday 12 August with Scribblemania, this time making little Brontë-style books. Wednesday 19 August will see artist Lesley Martin running storytelling sessions for children based on Brontë objects, and on Wednesday 26 August storyteller Peter Findlay is back for more lively tales and museum mayhem.

A free Local Residents’ Day takes place on Saturday 8 August, whereby local residents with a BD20, 21 & 22 postcode can enjoy free admission to the museum with production of a utility bill or other such proof of address.

An Audience with Mr Rochester

On Monday 24 August, Mr Rochester will make a visit to the Parsonage, fresh from falling off his horse. Now is your chance to ask him those tricky questions: what is that strange laughter coming from the attic, who is the mysterious girl he met in the lane, and what does he eat for breakfast? Takes place at various times throughout the day.

All events are free on admission to the Brontë Parsonage Museum.

Other exhibitions

Visitors to the museum in August will also be able to see several current exhibitions: Genius – The Brontë Story, the major refurbishment of the museum’s exhibition space, including new displays of Brontë treasures and new interpretations and interactive displays. This year’s special exhibition The Infernal World of Branwell Brontë focuses on Branwell and the story of his life and work. A contemporary arts exhibition, Ghosts, is also currently on display within the period rooms of the museum. Ghosts is a series of landscape photographs, taken of the moors around Haworth, by major artist Sam Taylor-Wood and inspired by Wuthering Heights. There are also the costumes from the upcoming ITV version of Wuthering Heights – due to be broadcast in August – on display at the museum.

All exhibitions are free on admission to the museum.
