An alert from the North Central College, Naperville, IL:
"Women and Madness"

North Central College's theatre department features "Women and Madness," a student-directed presentation of prose, monologues and dialogs, plays, poetry from recent and old literature, and original writing all centered on the theme of women and madness or craziness. Senior Mandy Kilinskis will direct seven students in this creative, nontraditional show that will be performed in the new Madden Theatre in-the-round.

In presenting the various pieces of literature, Kilinskis chose one of her favorite works as a centerpiece, "The Yellow Wallpaper." It's a short story by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and her own experience of suffering from serious depression and fatigue and feelings of madness. Among the many other works are "Hamlet" by Shakespeare, "Trudy" by Jane Wagner and "Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Brontë.

North Central College's award-winning theatre programs showcase musical and nonmusical performances, actor showcases, one-act plays and dance in the College's four theatre venues. Under the direction of faculty who are also actors from stages in New York and Chicago, student performances are on par with professional artists.
