2. At the Bishop's College in Colombo, Sri Lanka:

May 22 and 23 at 7pm

Charlotte Brontë, Charles Dickens, Bernard Shaw, Oscar Wilde, Hendrik Ibsen and Anton Chekov are some of English literature’s most famous writers. And their work will be brought to life by eight schools when Bishop’s College brings you the Inter School English Drama Festival.
The festival of theatre will be held this May with the participation of Ladies’ College, Methodist College, Good Shepherd Convent, Kotahena as well as Royal College, St. Joseph’s College, St. Peter’s College, Trinity College, Kandy and the hosts of the event, Bishop’s College. The festival is being coordinated by Clare de Silva, Jith Peiris and Nafeesa Amirudeen.
It started off with a drama workshop conducted by Mohamed Adamally and Tracy Holsinger on April 24 at Bishop’s College. The schools will be presenting a 25 minute excerpt from among the works of the writers mentioned, while prior to the dramas they will be exhibiting the life and works of their respective dramatists. The aim of the exhibition is for the participants to enhance their knowledge of the dramatists they will be presenting on stage, which will be held at the foyer and assisted by The British Council, Colombo. 3. In Sitges, Spain, an exhibition about the Romantic Novel includes mentions to the Brontës:

LA NOVEL·LA ROMÀNTICA
Demà dimarts 19 de maig arriba a la Biblioteca Santiago Rusiñol de Sitges la mostra “La novel·la romàntica”. Produïda per l’Àrea de Cultura de la Diputació i l’Obra Social Caixa Sabadell, l’exposició vol reflectir l’evolució del gènere que ha tingut més acceptació popular al llarg dels anys i que ha estat, de fet, el pioner de la literatura de consum. La mostra arribarà a diverses biblioteques de la Xarxa al llarg d’aquest any.
Tot i ser considerada literatura de quiosc, la novel·la romàntica o rosa ha tingut milions de lectors, especialment dones, i actualment és el gènere més venut als Estats Units i al Canadà, mentre que suposa el 7% del mercat editorial mundial.
L’exposició fa un recorregut per l’evolució del gènere des del seu precedent més reconegut, la novel·la “Pamela” de Samuel Richardson el 1740, fins a Bridget Jones i les heroïnes de “Sexe a Nova York”. S’atura en les més famoses novel·les del segle XIX, com els títols clàssics de Jane Austen i les germanes Brontë, i fa esment de l’evolució del gènere a Espanya, tot parant atenció a Corín Tellado, que va publicar més de 4.000 títols i va vendre milions d’exemplars a tot el món.
