"Young Adult Classics" is a new series from Naxos AudioBooks, which aims to bring key works of literature to a young audience in abridged form. Lively, accessible readings and music is the key. But also important are the extra bonus CD-Rom tracks including abridged and unabridged texts, and Top Teacher's Notes by high profile English teacher and writer Francis Gilbert.

The first two titles in the Young Adult Classics range (to be published on 2nd February) will be Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s most popular Sherlock Holmes story, The Hound of the Baskervilles. These will be followed on 10th April by Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Additional classics will become available throughout the year.

Nicolas Soames, Publisher of Naxos AudioBooks, said: ‘It is difficult for teenagers today to engage with classic stories, which may initially seem to be irrelevant to their lives. The purpose of the Young Adult Classics range is to help draw them into the worlds within the books. To show them that classic stories are as compelling and as topical today as they were when they were originally written.’
