As we have been reporting in previous posts, many of the reactions to the latest TV adaptation of Wuthering Heights have highlighted the soundtrack by Ruth Barrett as a very innovative and inspired work. Kimmie, reader of BrontëBlog and fan of Barrett's music has contacted the composer who has announced a possible itunes release:
I'm looking into an itunes release and will keep you posted. In the mean time I'll put some new tracks on my website.
Whatever the format, we really hope Ruth Barrett's soundtrack is made available. It deserves it.

EDIT: A brief track (Gambling, 30'') of the soundtrack is now available on the Rubykon Music Productions website.

EDIT (December 5, 2010): An anonymous comment gives some hopes:
I found Ms.Barretts contact info and emailed her she kindly emailed me back saying the soundtrack should be released within two weeks on itunes.
EDIT (January 10, 2011): An anonymous reader confirms that the soundtrack is available on itunes at last.

  1. I completely agree with the necessity for the release of the soundtrack. I only saw the second part of the series on my local PBS station.

In one of the final scenes of the newest adaptation, Heathcliff walks across the English fields and soon reaches his house. He enters the house as an older man with a youthful curiosity returning from his past, walking up the stairs wondering what will be around the corner (while knowing exactly what awaited him around the corner) and seeing his deceased love standing from across the hallway... the music in this scene was perfect... and to be quite honest, reduced me to tears.

All you film directors out there should certainly track down this very talented composer - she will undoubtedly do full justice to your films!

  15. I agree the music in this production was perfect: dark, raw, earthy and sombre, it managed to capture the very unique atmosphere of the book without ever slipping into cliched romance or melodrama as past adaptations have been guilty of doing. An official soundtrack release would be fantastic.

  19. I just saw this movie for the first time a couple days ago, and I absolutely love it! I had seen parts of another adaption, but I think this one is so much better. Tom Hardy did such a great job! But the music was gorgeous!!!!! I MUST HAVE THE SOUNDTRACK!! I especially liked the music that played while Heathcliff looked up at Cathy's window and remembered her looking out at him when she was a little girl. I also loved the music playing when he returned to the Heights and imagined he saw Cathy, before he killed himself.

I really hope they make the soundtrack available soon! If they don't, I'll just have to keep watching the movie and humming the theme to myself. :P

  21. Torture indeed, waiting for the soundtrack of that particular scene when Heathcliff walks to the house where he will commit suicide.

The world is full of products we don´t need, and a desperate mass of people is being tortured by NOT filling its need to hear this music!

    Please, life is too short.
