A couple of European alerts:

1. Netherlands.

We read in Stad Amersfoort how today, December 13 there will be auditions for next year's (November 2009) Muziektheatergroep Totaal at the Theater de Lieve Vrouw in Amersfoort, Netherlands production of Jane Eyre. The musical:

Muziektheatergroep Totaal zoekt voor haar musical Jane Eyre zes meisjes met spel- en zangervaring. In november 2009 zal deze nieuwe productie in première gaan in Theater De Lieve Vrouw, de meisjes dienen dan minimaal 14 jaar te zijn. Op 13 december zijn de audities.
Jane Eyre gaat over een weesmeisje dat opgroeit bij haar akelige tante Mrs. Reed, die haar na vele ruzies naar een strenge kostschool stuurt. Daar is ze getuige van de dood van haar vriendin Helen, hetgeen een diepe indruk op haar maakt. Jane wordt lerares op dezelfde kostschool en later gouvernante van Adèle, de onwettige dochter van de brute Mr. Rochester op Thronfield Hall.
De zes rollen betreffen de jonge Jane Eyre, Helen Burns, Adèle Varens en drie weesmeisjes op de kostschool. De rollen variëren in grootte en moeilijkheid. Zo zullen de drie weesmeisjes van de kostschool meezingen in een ensemble, terwijl de jonge Jane Eyre naast haar tekstaandeel ook enkele solostukken zal gaan zingen. 2. Spain.

Next December 15 is the deadline for inscription in a Course of Literary Creation organized by the City Council of Cartagena, Spain. The course will be given by Espido Freire in March 2009, author of Querida Jane, Querida Charlotte and well known Brontëite. No surprise then that Wuthering Heights will be one of the required reads. We read in Diario Siglo XXI:

La escritora Espido Freire impartirá en Cartagena un curso de creación literaria inicial dentro de las actividades para conmemorar el 8 de marzo el día de la Mujer, según informaron fuentes del Ayuntamiento del municipio en un comunicado.
La Concejalía de la Mujer del Ayuntamiento de Cartagena ha organizado este curso, que tendrá lugar los días 23, 24 y 25 de marzo de 2009, y cuyo plazo de inscripción comenzó hoy y permanecerá abierto hasta el 15 de diciembre.
Se trata de una de las actividades organizadas por esta Concejalía para conmemorar el 8 de marzo, Día de las Naciones Unidas para los derechos de la Mujer y la Paz Internacional.
El curso se dirigirá a profesores de lengua y literatura, escritores aficionados, periodistas y otras profesiones que necesiten los rudimentos de escribir o contar una historia, de forma que el número de alumnos del curso será de 20. (Siglo XXI)
