A musical alert from Haworth for today, September 26:
Bells: the Brontë musical by Eddie Lawler

Premiered in 2001, this musical has been revised for 2008; they ring more Bells than they had anticipated!
West Lane Chapel, 7:30 PM
As a matter of fact, the revamped musical was presented last week at the Saltaire Festival 2008:
Friday 19th September, 21st September at 7.30 pm in Saltaire United Reformed Church.
A cameo version will be performed at the upcoming Ilkley Literature Festival:
Saturday 4th October
9:15 PM - 10:15 PM

Saltaire’s young team of bellringers went to Haworth this year to ring the bells in the Church where most of the Brontë family lie buried in a vault. They rang so loud they managed to waken the dead, briefly……..
They tell the tale in this cameo version of Eddie Lawler’s Brontë musical Bells, which tries to catch the Bronte characters in song.
A description of the musical can be read on this old article in the Ilkley Gazette:

"Bells is a traditional musical - with a few innovations - about a group of school kids who persuade their teachers to do a musical but the other strand is about their field trip to Haworth.
"They're staying at the Youth Hostel, and when the lights go out during a thunderstorm they have some ghostly experiences with the reappearance of the Bronte sisters and their brother Branwell.
"The sisters bring hopeful messages but Branwell, whose own great talent collapsed because of his addictions to drink and drugs, warns them of the dangers of wasted talent.''
