Karen from Classical Comics recently e-mailed us concerning the forthcoming edition of Jane Eyre (September 2008):
One thing you (or your bloggers) may be able to help with.

We are putting together the information pages for the book, and wondered if there were any specific image that you felt to be iconic, or perhaps under used/rare that we should include?

Suggestions always welcomed.
As are ideas for topic heading for those pages.

For instance, with Macbeth we covered the real Mac Bethad, his family tree, Scotland in the 11th century, that sort of thing.
As we understand it, it can be about either Jane Eyre, the Brontës or their background, something you feel that ought to be featured in the information pages. It's a great opportunity to speak your mind concerning what you'd love to see in this kind of book.

Leave your suggestions in the comments of this post or send them to us at bronteblog (AT) gmail (DOT) com. Karen said we had until the end of April to send them to her so you may yet mull the matter over.

  1. Hey there!

Actually I think the latest version of Jane Eyre has become quite iconic.

Also Branwell's portrait of his sisters should definitely be there.

  2. I think Haworth should be there, pictures or information. The parsonage too of course.

  3. The juvenilia has to be mentioned. It's a great way to connect with teenagers. As a matter of fact, the Brontës juvenilia is something different than modern fanfiction or role playing?

  4. Mention of the crucial stay in Brussels and M.Heger's (possible) artistic influences, unrequited love etc. - A muse?
Mention relation of JE to her other novels
Childhood definitely - school experiences and premature deaths of siblings as influenced the Lowood portion of the book - Roe Head engraving?
    Distaste for teaching/governess work
Some historical context for middle class women in UK at the time
Only known (possible) photo of Charlotte?
The drawing from one of Charlotte's letters where she compares herself to Ellen Nussey?

  5. Thank you all for your suggestions! Do keep them coming.

To the last person who left a comment: did you actually mean a Roe Head engraving or did you really have in mind one of those famous Cowan Bridge engravings? I'm guessing you probably did.
