Du Maurier novel 'Daphne' To celebrate the publication of the new novel ‘Daphne’ by author and journalist Justine Picardie there will be an ‘in conversation with’ Professor Helen Taylor
in LT1, Queen’s Building, at 5.00 p.m. on Wednesday 5th of March. She will read from the novel and signed copies will be for sale.
Justine Picardie delved into the Du Maurier archive held at Exeter University and came up with a brilliant new novel, ‘Daphne’. It uses the fascinating correspondence between Daphne du Maurier and the Bronte family to illuminate the story of a young woman, a PhD student in the present day, who is newly married after a fleeting courtship. She is trying to make herself at home in a large house in Hampstead and finds that her research throws up disturbing parallels with her own life…AND - earlier in the afternoon, she will give a talk in the archive itself. This is a unique opportunity to book a place to see Daphne du Maurier’s original manuscripts and to hear Justine Picardie talk about how she used the letters between du Maurier and the Brontes in the novel.
Numbers are restricted to just 20 people so please call 01392 263879 or email libspc@exeter.ac.uk to book your place.
The correspondence between Daphne du Maurier and the Brontë family - now that would make quite an interesting read. Not to mention the possibilities that writing to someone in the future/past opens up.
Wed Mar 12 Muswell Hill Bookshop, 72 Fortis Green Road, N10 3HN, London
