Anne Brontë was born 188 years ago and at BrontëBlog we have decided to give her once again what her sister Charlotte once gave her. Whether or not it was initially intended for Anne's birthday we don't know. We only know it was written/drawn around 1826-1829 by a Charlotte who was both taking over as eldest sibling and starting to discover the joys of writing. Anne was the pet of the family and we can only imagine her gladness at getting this little book full of drawings.

Although some pages are missing, the beginning is delightful:
There was once
a little girl and her
name was Ane
she was born at
a little village
named Thorn
[ton?] and she
was a good litle
girl
For further details and the full transcription of this tiny gem (and many other little gems) we suggest you look for a book called Sixty Treasures, by Juliet Barker (published in 1988 to celebrate the Brontë Parsonage Museum Diamond Jubilee).

Happy birthday, Anne! May many people discover your writing this year.
