We report today a Brontë Society event that will last the whole week:

Monday 1-Friday 5 October

Brontë Society Southern Excursion:

This year our theme is 'The Novel', looking at the influence of the Brontës and the writers inspirng them. We will start in London, at the home of Thomas Carlyle who was host to all literary London at the time of the Brontës and progress to Hampshire, Dorset and Sussex, visiting the houses of Jane Austen (and the Library of Women's Fiction), Thomas Hardy, Virginial Woolf and the rest of the Bloomsbury set and Rudyard Kipling.

The excursion will be accompanied by Professor Douglas Gifford, Emeritus Professor of Literature at the University of Glasgow, who wil give the evening lecture on the first night (October 1st) and others during the week.
