As we already published, Ruth Wilson is nominated to Best Actress in next BAFTA TV awards awards for her performance in 2006 BBC Jane Eyre. Metro talks with her and how she feels weeks before the ceremony:
"I am very chuffed and honoured to be in such great company with all those amazing actresses," says Ruth.
"I used to watch the Baftas as a kid and always wanted to win one, so to be up there and in contention is amazing and it's really great to be recognised by your peers for a piece you have put so much effort and time into."
Despite her impressive competitors, the 25-year-old is still confident.(...)
While most newcomers would have found the prospect of playing Jane Eyre daunting, Ruth wasn't intimidated by her first major role.
"Things don't affect me," she says. "I've got a weird sense of reality. I kind of wander through life and take it in my stride."
For an actress whose only previous TV experience was in little-known Five comedy Suburban Shootout, she hadn't even expected to be offered the role.
"I knew they liked me but they said they were looking for a bigger name with more experience. I was blown away when they told me I'd got the part," she confesses.
"The whole experience was pretty amazing. Everyone was lovely and supportive with no egos.
"But it was really intense playing someone like Jane because all her emotions are happening inside. So on the outside she seems incredibly calm, resilient and wise. That's what I really liked about her."
Interestingly, fellow Bafta TV nominee Sam Morton played Jane Eyre on TV back in 1997 - although Ruth wasn't picking up tips.
"I refused to watch any other version - just in case it influenced how I played the part and I decided not to," she says.
"I drew my influences from the book mainly. Bronte is an amazing writer and you don't need to look elsewhere really." (...)
"I'm very busy at the moment - it's great stuff," she says.
But it's not all work. When she's not in rehearsals, Ruth is choosing what to wear to the Bafta TV Awards.
"It's every girl's dream to get all these dresses and try them on - there are endless sparkly outfits and different shoes. It's amazing! I would never be able to afford them before and suddenly they keep arriving," she gushes.
While she's still deciding on her outfit, she's already decided on her date for the night.
"My mum - I promised her I'd take her to one of these awards, so she's busy trying to find a dress as well and getting very excited."
