The annual Brontë Society May Walk is scheduled for today, May 13:
The route will take us to the cottages that remain from the original Cowan Bridge school. From here, we shall proceed past Leck Beck and over the fields and footpaths to the 13th century Tunstall Church (the Brocklebridge church of Jane Eyre). The church was attended by the girls from the school, though it is a greater distance away from the school than Leck Church (picture). The room in the church tower, where the girls ate lunch, still remains. The route continues through Laithbutts Farm and circles to reach the church at Leck, which has graves of pupils from the school. The road bears round to the left and back to the car park.

The area is one of outstanding natural beauty, being on the edge of the Lake District fells and Yorkshire Dales National Park. These are good views towards Ingleborough and Gragareth, which Charlotte Brontë referred to as "noble summits girding a great hill hollow".
