Beth Torgerson, Ph.D., English, will present on her book Reading the Bronte Body: Disease, Desire, and the Constraints of Culture. This book combines medical anthropology and the history of medicine as a lens with which to understand representations of disease and illness found in the novels written by Anne, Emily and Charlotte Bronte. This presentation is relevant to anyone interested in interconnections between literature and medicine, the body and culture.
