The Department of Adult and Continuing Education of the University of Glasgow organizes a course starting today, April 23, that links Hans Christian Andersen with Jane Eyre and Charles Dickens's Great Expectations:
A stranger to the company: Hans Christian Andersen, Dickens and Brontë

In 1847 and 1857 Hans Christian Andersen visited Charles Dickens to talk about the plots and characters of English novels. This course looks at Dickens's Great Expectations (1860) and Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre (1847) from the perspective of Hans Andersen's own Tales, so that they emerge illuminated as legends of the Northern World.

  1. I remember reading that Hans Christian Andersen overstayed his welcome at Dickens’ house by weeks and wouldn't take heed of the obvious the hints for him to leave!
