April 12 is the
Drop Everything and Read Day, which suits us very well, though it tends to be our day-to-day philosophy anyway.
The Globe Gazette talks about this and asks its readers to recommend their favourite books.
"Jane Eyre," by Charlotte Bronte
I read “Jane Eyre” when I was 13 or 14 and I guess it came at just the right time. I loved the book so much, I couldn’t put it down. I read it at the school bus stop, on the bus and as soon as I got out of school, then again during all my waking hours at home when I wasn’t doing homework. If you're looking for inspiration on what to drop everything for and read today, you might find this news item interesting. It looks like the New York Public Library has recently picked its top 10 favourite love stories according to
Reuters. Which is number one? Well, no other than Wuthering Heights!
Tango Together lists the complete selection. No Jane Eyre though :(
Angel Eve doesn't need telling. She posts several quotes from
Wuthering Heights 1939 on her blog.
And as you know, we recently posted about a German novel -
Sturmherz - inspired by Wuthering Heights. Today
Pressemitteilung has a review of it in German.
Someone who will certainly drop everything and read is Amrita Rajan from
Blog Critics. While talking about reading Far from the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy (BrontëBlog humbly recommends this novel too), she writes:
Put Jane Eyre in front of me and I become a zombie that must feed on all things Bronte.
And finally
The Irish World reviews Douglas A. Martin's book
Branwell.
Martin skilfully takes the reader on a journey of Branwell’s life and self-discovery through his very own eyes. (Hazel Gray-Read)
Just remember: today drop everything and
READ.
