And a new visitors' guide to the Peak District has been presented. The new booklet, Front Row of the Peak, includes some references to the locations of the recent BBC Jane Eyre adaptation.

Peak District visitors can follow in the footsteps of movie-stars and literary heroes with a new Peak Experience film and literature guide, launched on October 27th.

“Front Row of the Peak” is the essential guide to film and literature locations. It includes settings used during the filming of the blockbuster Pride and Prejudice and the BBC’s recent Jane Eyre. You can also find places that have appeared in the long-running ITV drama Peak Practice and BBC’s League of Gentlemen as well as films from the Dambusters to Women in Love and Elizabeth.

The Peak District has inspired writers, dramatists and film-makers for many years. Jane Austen is thought to have based Darcy’s home on Chatsworth when writing Pride and Prejudice. Charlotte Bronte based parts of Jane Eyre on places around Hathersage after she visited the Peak village. When the BBC returned to the Peak to shoot Jane Eyre, they set key scenes in Haddon Hall, the North Lees estate and Dovedale. Ashbourne was inspired George Elliot when writing Adam Bede.

The new visitors' guide was launched in Bakewell, last October 27, during the Peak Book Festival. Copies will be available from Peak District visitor centres some time in November.

The Derbyshire UK website also has created a comprehensive guide to all the Derbyshire and Peak District locations used in BBC's Jane Eyre with pictures and information.
