"It's a very demanding play and the roles are so serous and dimensional," said [Joy] Armstrong, [Drama Department Director]
The director said doing the play has led her to wonder how Bronte, a woman who lived a strikingly normal life, came up with such a plot."It's just such a classic and so strong ... it's incomparable," said Armstrong.
A crew and cast of some 30 students have been working on the production since the second week of the school year with each expressing excitement about seeing it finally go on stage before an audience.
Chris McCarthy, a junior, will take on the role of Heathcliff in what is his eighth play with the group.
The 16-year-old thespian assured that taking on the central role of the protagonist is a new direction for him as he is usually a more "happy-go-lucky" type of guy.
"It definitely gives me a chance to stretch my acting talents and take it to the limit ... Heathcliff is out of his mind," said McCarthy (...)
Karina Lange, a sophomore, will play opposite McCarthy as "Catherine" in what is her first major role after spending recent years working on technical support and lighting. (...)
"I love it, and I'm a big fan of those," she said with a laugh. Lange said Catherine is a great role as she gets to take on the part of the "bitter-sweet" love interest."
I kind of think she's the person that everybody loves to hate," she said of her role.
Armstrong said the 15-year-old newcomer to acting is "excellent on stage" and should turn in a tremendous performance.
The entire crew has spent recent weeks fine-tuning the show with Kevin Divers, a junior, having to learn how to speak with a Yorkshire accent for his role as Joseph.
