This time it's Allison Pearson in The Daily Mail who praises BBC's Jane Eyre, Toby Stephens and Ruth Wilson in particular.

Is Mr Rochester the new Mr Darcy? Viewers of BBC1's Jane Eyre are divided. There are those of us who, despite initial reservations — too young to play Rochester, not dark or tormented enough — have gradually been seduced by Toby Stephens’s wounded eyes and sardonic smile.
Not to mention the manly poses he strikes in those jodhpurs. Then there are the doubters who still see the wig, not the man. Not so much a head of hair as a dead stoat, the poor wig got very agitated during Sunday’s big proposal scene and threatened to lift off into the oak tree that was sheltering the lovers, taking Mr Rochester's sideburns with it.
All, however, are united in praise for Ruth Wilson's Miss Eyre. This wonderful young actress has pulled off the trick of making goodness look like beauty and mere beauty look inadequate.

I loved the scene where Jane examined her face in the mirror the day after the Master kissed her for the first time, never having believed any man would want her.
And I surprised myself with tears when, with heartbreaking plainness, Jane declared to Mr R: "Wherever you are is my home."

This serial feels worthy of being called a classic.
Roll on next Sunday . . .

Erm... wig? Toby Stephens only used extensions (as he always reminds in his interviews).
