Bookslut reviews Book by Book: Notes on Reading and Life by Michael Dirda. The reviewer quotes one of the funniest Brontë mention in a movie that we can remember:

A quotation out of context is a fortune cookie's content. "Miss Brontë, Miss Brontë," chanted the Career Girls of Mike Leigh's 1997 film, each blindfolded and flipping a worn copy of Wuthering Heights before pointing to her destiny. This ritual produced a satisfying outcome for one ("Must come!"), but their interpretation of that phrase was far different from what Brontë must have intended.

Maybe the ritual has been used recently by the Shared Experience's company that was performing Polly Teale's Jane Eyre in London because the performances have been extended.

Shared Experience’s acclaimed production of Jane Eyre
has extended its run at Trafalgar Studio 1 until 9 September. It had been booking until 29 July.

  1. I saw the Polly Teale version yesterday – it was great, very powerful and interesting – would recommend it to anyone who might be in London before the run ends.

  2. Thanks for sharing your opinion with us. This extension has been unexpected good news for us, because now we will be able to see it in London... and believe me, after so much reporting and talking about it... we want to really see it !
