The Stage has caught wind of the world's interest (to put it mildly) in the new Jane Eyre production. It is true the miniseries is creating high expectations whenever it is mentioned. Just look at us posting every tiny mention in our thirst for news :P

Jane Eyre. A nicely lavish BBC costume drama ticks several boxes before it’s even in the can, but the spectre of the hit-and-miss Toby Stephens as Rochester has me furrowing my brow in consternation.

We guess they mean his latest picture as Rochester where he too is furrowing his brow.

The Observer Blog has an entry about the frenzy for new editions of the classics and they talk about the Penguin Reds. The writer seems to consider the new Wuthering Heights cover 'pretty awful'. And we can't help but agree with him. We are still puzzling over the neck theme on the covers of Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre. It looks like Jane Austen got the good designer.

And finally Nahid Rachlin's new novel, Jumping Over Fire is said to be 'a political novel with a strong dose of "Wuthering Heights" blended into it'. And all because of this:

what will become of the intense, clandestine, semi-incestuous love affair that Noor and Jahan started in their teens? And why does Jahan look so much like his adoptive father?

We won't go into the many reasons in favour or against incest theories in Wuthering Heights but we will just say that if that is all there is to the similarity, then it is... er... really tenuous and certainly not a 'strong dose'.
