Tomorrow, July 18, the Present Actors Company presents a new production of Polly Teale's After Mrs. Rochester at the Greenwich Playhouse, Great London, UK.

The play tells the compelling story of Jean Rhys (the author of Wide Sargasso Sea, a book considered the 'prequel' to Jane Eyre centering on the life of Mrs Rochester, the madwoman in the attic). With the arrival of her daughter, an elderly Jean Rhys is forced to revisit her past in order to understand their relationship.

From her early life in Dominica, when she was still a girl called Ella, the play sees Jean Rhys grow up, suffering abuse, intense isolation and a desperate need for love and acceptance. Tormented by her demons, real and imagined, with the mad and unconstrained Mrs Rochester a constant shadow throughout, After Mrs. Rochester will leave you breathless and deeply moved.

“After Mrs Rochester”
