We have found
this appeal from active Brontë Society member Imelda Marsden:
Current Bronte council member and Mirfield resident Imelda Marsden fears the town will not be represented at Bronte council meetings unless more members are recruited.Imelda, a life member of the society, said it would be a shame if Mirfield, with its connections to the Bronte family, was not represented on the council after she retires this year. She said the link between the town and the society, bringing business and tourism into the town, could be lost.Mirfield’s former Roe Head School, where the sisters were educated for several years and where Charlotte later taught, stood on the site of Holly Bank school.Bronte fans must be a society member for two years before being voted onto the council.Council meetings take place at the Bronte Parsonage Museum, Haworth, eight times a year.Joining the Society - especially if you are based in the UK - is very worth it. But if you happen to be elsewhere, though the benefits are not so many as for those in the UK, you can always get the Gazette, Brontë Studies, and most importantly, know that your money is being used to keep the Brontës alive.
Incidentally, we recently also heard that the
American Chapters are looking to enlarge their ranks too!
