The Yorkshire Today publishes a brief account of the recent BBC2's People's Museum polls that we reported previously. Charlotte's little book received almost a thousand votes !

BBC2's People's Museum programme invited viewers to vote on their favourite museum artefacts from across the UK, which will now be placed in a virtual museum on the BBC's history website.

Charlotte Brontë's delicate book, which has rarely been seen in public, will now be temporarily displayed at the Brontë Parsonage Museum in Haworth.
The winner of the competition, with 1,631 votes, was the Enigma Machine, used by the Germans to encipher and decipher messages. The codes were famously broken by Polish and English experts at Bletchley Park, giving the allies a huge boost and becoming a symbol of how allied ingenuity was able to counter the brute strength of the Nazi regime. The manuscript received 958 votes.
The tiny book, which is no bigger than the palm of a hand and measures 42mm x 64mm, was believed to be written by Charlotte between 1826 and 1829 when she was aged between 10 and 13.
