For days we have been sort of avoiding a news item that we deemed pretty - erm - silly, but since it won't die down we feel obliged to post about it and see if it goes away:

A calendar published by the state Department of Corrections that lists the birthdays of historical figures like Ho Chi Minh, Karl Marx and the man who planned the attack on Pearl Harbor has upset a Yakima Valley legislator. [...]
Other figures noted on the calendar include Irving Berlin, Audrey Hepburn, Sigmund Freud, Peter the Great, Eva Peron, Booker T. Washington, Charlotte Bronte and singer Sheena Easton.

Apparently such diversity should be frowned upon, if you must know.

And The Telegraph - in the Sports section! - has one of those mentions when the author of the article seems to have been paid depending on how many literary names he puts into the article.

We keep talking about Mr Right like a particularly dippy Bridget Jones hooked on Wuthering Heights and desperate slugs of white wine, when in fact there must be hundreds of Mr Perfectly Capables out there.

Hmmmkay...
