A short review of the Oxford Companion

The Independent reviews the paperback edition of The Oxford Companion to the Brontës that we, at BrontëBlog, are enjoying so much:

Issued at one quarter the price of the hardback edition, this bulky compendium contains a wonderfully detailed account of Yorkshire's leading literary family. We learn than Branwell did not succeed in his career as a railway clerk due to a "discrepancy in his accounts" - but many peripheral entries are also of great interest. Artists inspired to produce work based on Wuthering Heights range from Bunuel, whose 1953 film bore the steamy title Depths of Passion, and Kate Bush. CH (By Christopher Hirst & Christina Patterson)

We wholeheartedly agree with this too short review (but Bunuel.. is BuÑuel)
