Issued at one quarter the price of the hardback edition, this bulky compendium contains a wonderfully detailed account of Yorkshire's leading literary family. We learn than Branwell did not succeed in his career as a railway clerk due to a "discrepancy in his accounts" - but many peripheral entries are also of great interest. Artists inspired to produce work based on Wuthering Heights range from Bunuel, whose 1953 film bore the steamy title Depths of Passion, and Kate Bush.
