We have come across this article (that appears in several newspapers today) about the impact, trajectory and the evolution of the identity of the blonde girl.

According to the author, Bo Emerson:

"(...) the identity of the blonde has gone through many twists and turns. She was the paragon of feminine virtue and beauty until the latter half of the 19th century, when a radical shift began, propelled by Jane Austen, Charlotte Brontë and their female colleagues, according to Ellen Tremper, author of "I'm No Angel: The Blonde in Fiction and Film."

The book in question was presented on this blog some weeks ago.
