As it has been previously reported on Brontëana's blog or on the Jane Eyre-The Musical Forum, this February is full of regional performances of Jane Eyre. The musical (Book by John Caird; Lyrics and Music by Paul Gordon).

Tomorrow February 4, is the opening in the Masquerade Theatre in Houston, TX. The press release seems to go backwards in time and excuse the 'coarseness' of Jane Eyre's passion with references to faith and religion:

Jane Eyre tells the story of one of literature's most beloved heroines. A young woman struggling to overcome an abusive childhood, Jane experiences the difficulty of reconciling her past with the social prejudice present in her relationship with Rochester. She is ultimately torn between Rochester's affection and her duty to God, and her deep faith eventually leads her to realize that she is indeed a person to be loved. A hallmark of English literature, Charlotte Brontë's epic novel comes to life on stage with its sweeping melodies and heart-wrenching melodrama. The score is exceptional in the modern Broadway climate with its sheer lyricism and beauty. A romantic, breath-taking spectacle, The Masquerade Theatre is pleased to present the Houston premiere of Jane Eyre.

Starring Kristina Sullivan. Directed by Phillip Duggins.

Performances: 4,5, 10,11 and 12 February.
