th January 2006 at 8.00pm there's a Brontë-related musical rendez-vous. At the Exeter Cathedral (Exeter, Devon, UK) - and included in the Chapter House Concerts (formerly the Deanery Concert Series) - a musical evening with the name "
The Romantics. Words and Songs" will take place.
Words of Keats, Emily Bronté (sic), Wordsworth etc.
with musical settings by Stanford, Schubert, Mendelssohn and others
Carolyn Harries (mezzo soprano)
Sheena Strachan (piano)
Kate Littlewood (readings)
The Chapter House dates from 1225 when Bishop Brewer (1224-1244) gave part of his garden for its construction at the same time as appointing Serlo to be the first Dean of the Cathedral. The site of Serlo's grave under the Chapter House is marked by a cross in the stone floor a few feet from the West Door. (...)
The Chapter House is the new venue for the series of concerts previously given in the Great Hall of the Deanery. In the popular tradition of Deanery Concerts, refreshments will be served during the interval in the Chapter House.
