Written on the body

The Dance COLEctive (TLC) is celebrating their 10th anniversary with the premiere of "Written on the Body" and other dance works at The Ruth Page Center for the Arts, 1016 N. Dearborn Parkway, Chicago.

The Dance COLEctive was founded by Artistic Director Margi Cole in March of 1996 to preserve, advance and strengthen the art of contemporary dance in Chicago and Illinois.

According to this press release:

Written on the Body, inspired by the writings and lives of the Brontë sisters, all of whom published works under male pseudonyms in the 1830's ("Wuthering Heights", "Jane Eyre" and "Agnes Grey").

Written on the Body utilizes the Brontë’s hidden lives as a framework for exploration of the male and female representation of ideas through the medium of dance. Cole has a cast of female and male dancers, representing both the Brontë sisters (Charlotte, Emily & Ann) and their male alter-egos (Currer, Ellis & Acton Bell). Written on the Body will feature an original soundscore by musician Kevin O'Donnell, costumes by Atalee Judy and motion capture and graphics by Michael Cole.

For the sake of completeness we have to say that last October 23, at the Book Cellar in Chicago a "Tea with the Brontës" was held where Margi Cole, artistic director of the Dance COLEctive, talked about the inside scoop about the development of a new modern dance work inspired by the life and writings of the Bronte sisters. Also last November 2, the Book Cellar store book club discussed Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë.
