It seems that today is the day for looking back, we hope without anger, to some previous posts. Some weeks ago we posted about the links about the Brontës and the moon. Well, today is time to talk about Brontës and Venus, no less. Yesterday a spacecraft, the Venus Express, was launched, with the mission of studying the atmosphere and surface of this neighbouring planet.

This is the perfect excuse for highlighting this article in which the appeareances of Venus in the writings of the three sisters are discussed. Not only does it appear in Emily's poetry, but also in the novels of Charlotte and Anne.

"Cold clear and blue the morning heaven
Expands its arch on high
Cold and clear Lake Werna's water
Reflects that winter's sky
The moon has set but Venus shines
A silent silvery star. " (Emily Brontë)
