Yorkshire Post Today reports the recent twinning of Haworth and Machu Picchu thanks to the initiative of one woman only. Rita Verity travelled to Machu Picchu and on her return took her proposal to the Haworth Parish Council and they gave her green light.

Both places do indeed have more in common than meets the eye:

Both have populations of around 3,000 and both attract around a million tourists each year though Mach Picchu can be reached only by steam train.

The presentation by Ms Verity will take place tomorrow:

The presentation will be at West Lane Baptist Church and begins at 7pm but is by invitation only. However, the church will be open from 3pm-5pm when guests can see a display and watch a short video of Machu Picchu shot by Rita.

And what do twins and siblings do? Well, they give books to each other and this relationship among villages is no different:

Three books have already been donated by the Brontë Parsonage to the people of Machu Picchu. They are Moods of the Brontë Moors, Yorkshire from the Air and a Brontë Parsonage souvenir guide.

We have to congratulate Ms Verity for her wonderful idea and for her success in carrying it out. At BrontëBlog we firmly believe that Emily for one would have loved reaching Machu Picchu by way of the moors.
