Thanks to a post in bronteana.blogspot.com we have noticed that we have missed an important event at BrontëBlog: The UK premiere of the musical Jane Eyre.

Paul Gordon and John Caird's Broadway musical adaptation of Jane Eyre has received its first UK performances at the Regent Theatre, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire in September courtesy of the Millennium Youth Theatre Company from 20th September to 24th September. The information released by the promoters is the following:

"MYTC brings the UK premiere of the hit Broadway show Jane Eyre-The Musical to The Regent Theatre-and it's a show not to be missed!True to its 19th century origins and the original novel by Charlotte Bronte, Jane Eyre is a lavish Victorian banquet of emotions-passion, faith, forgiveness and-most of all-the eternal healing power of an all-consuming love.Award-winning composer Paul Gordon joined forces with the original director of Les Miserables, John Caird, to create this theatrical masterpiece. Nominated for 5 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Jane Eyre's sweeping love story is breathtaking in its scope and beauty, filled with soaring melodies and romantic lyricism. "

Samples of the songs, in the 2000 Original Broadway Cast version, can be listened to in Amazon, and a review of the Broadway production can be read here.

On another note, we'd like to announce that a revival of the Jane Eyre's adaption by Polly Teale (yes, the same one of Brontë) is being prepared and will be on the Richmond theatre in Richmond, Surrey in February 2006. Just in case that we miss it...
