Emily Brontë’s novel of impossible desires, violence and transgression is a masterpiece of intense, unsettling power.
It begins in a snowstorm, when Lockwood, the new tenant of Thrushcross Grange on the bleak Yorkshire moors, is forced to seek shelter at Wuthering Heights. There he discovers the history of the tempestuous events that took place years before: the intense passion between the foundling Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw, her betrayal of him and the bitter vengeance he now wreaks on the innocent heirs of the past.
As the new film adaptation nears its controversial release, we revisit the classic novel that started it all.

Community Cinemas: Emily (2022)
Brontë Birthplace, Thornton
15/02/2026
4:00 PM - 6:30 PM

We’re delighted to be partnering with Bradford Community Cinemas, supported by Bradford 2025 – City of Culture, to bring a series of free film screenings to the Brontë Birthplace.
We begin with Emily (2022), a bold and imaginative re-telling of the life of Emily Brontë, shown in the very place where the Brontë story began. This atmospheric screening offers a rare opportunity to experience film, heritage, and storytelling together in an intimate historic setting.

Thanks to Bradford 2025 funding, entry is free of charge, though booking is essential as seating is limited.

Our Tea Room will be open for refreshments, and the Gift Shop will also be open for visitors wishing to purchase a souvenir of their visit.

Sunday 15 February | Doors open at 3:30pm
