Tomorrow, October 4 in Thornton and online via webinar:
Brontë Society Annual Lecture 2025
Sat 4 Oct, 1:30pm
St James’ Church, Thornton, BD13 3AB

Many writers have been influenced by the Brontës' lives and works, producing novels, plays, poetry and art. Based on original research for a new book exploring their influence on successive creative writers and artists, this talk will explore how Emily’s life and work, in particular, fuelled the heated and complex relationship between Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes.
The Brontë Society's Annual Lecture will be delivered by Dr Claire O’Callaghan. Claire is Senior Lecturer in Victorian and Neo-Victorian literature and culture in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Loughborough University. She has published widely on the Brontës and is currently working several research projects. Claire is also Editor-in-Chief of Brontë Studies, the Official Journal of the Brontë Society.
This year, the Annual Lecture is being held at St James’ Church, Thornton, BD13 3AB, prior to the Brontë Society's AGM at 1:30pm. The talk is also available to watch live online.
The Annual Lecture is open to everyone, but only Brontë Society Members can attend the Annual General Meeting held afterwards.
