Fall in love between the pages . . .
Still grieving the death of her best friend, Erin knows she needs to start living - but has no idea how. Then she loses her favourite book, heavily annotated and containing her friend's final words to her.
When James finds Erin's note-filled book in his local community library, he writes his own message back, and soon they are locked in an anonymous book exchange . . .
But Erin and James have a shared history that neither of them realise. How will Erin react when she discovers the other writer isn't a stranger at all - but the person she once swore she'd never forgive?
A story of second chances and new beginnings, this is a love letter to books - and a love letter to love.
One of those exchanged books is Wuthering Heights, which is reappearing through the novel:
Pulling a pen from the drawer beside my bed, I turn to the back page of Great Expectations and write in my neatest handwriting, Meet me in Wuthering Heights? (...)
“Sorry,” I say, but I stretch past and pull out the Dickens book, flicking straight to the back. Has she done it? I’d understand if not. Maybe it was just me who got something from the notes. But I can already see replies from Margins Girl, on the last page. I scan it until I reach the bottom, warmth spreading through my body as I see the final note, written in much neater handwriting than that which is scrawled across the pages of the book. Meet me in Wuthering Heights? I can’t believe it. She’s replied. Reaching back into the library, I find the book, where Helena just returned it.
The novel has been translated into Italian with a very special title:
