An Emily Brontë & Kate Bush birthday boogie!
South Square Thornton BD13 3LD United Kingdom
5:30 - 10pm GMT+1
Celebrate the birthdays of Emily Brontë and Kate Bush in Thornton - the birthplace of the Brontë sisters. We’re hosting an evening of fun, entertainment and wonder inspired by Wuthering Heights. Join us for dancing, dress up, a DJ and more.
Plus, we’ll be joined by very special guest, the one and only, Kate Butch.
This really is an evening not to be missed! With limited space in our Grade II listed heritage building - just a stone’s throw from the Brontë’s birthplace - you’ll want to secure your ticket before they sell out.
Booking required. Limited capacity. Part of the event will be outdoors.
Why Brontë/ Bush?
Emily Brontë was born in a terraced house in Thornton village that has recently been purchased by the community as a place to showcase the Brontës’ literary heritage. Emily’s life on the Yorkshire moors is said to be the inspiration behind her literary classic, Wuthering Heights.
Inspired by the words in Brontë’s novel, Kate Bush went on to pen the world changing pop song of the same name. These two feminist figures also happen to share a birthday – which seemed like the perfect excuse for a party!
Our Wuthering Nights event is an opportunity to celebrate the fantastic Wondering Heights project led by artist, Lucy Barker, part of the Bradford 2025 Artist-led Project Awards programme. Wondering Heights inspires exploration, imagination, and joyful movement, through an inclusive Wuthering Heights inspired dance routine. You can watch this on her website (https://lucy-barker.co.uk/wondering-heights-information/#the-dance) before the event, and practice your moves live with us on the dance floor. Lucy's project encourages people to take their dance on the moor, with a beautiful, detailed map which we are giving away for free at the South Square Cafe throughout July.
We will have a special appearance by Drag Queen Kate Butch. Kate Butch is an award-winning menace to society who is perhaps best known for competing on Series 5 of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, becoming one of its breakout stars. She is also known for winning Celebrity Mastermind (BBC) and appearing on Gingers House (BBC). She is also an experienced stand-up comedian, enjoying sold-out Edinburgh runs of her shows Kate if You Wanna Go Butcher and Wuthering Shites, as well as performing in Drag Queens vs Zombies and Drag Queens vs Vampires, the latter of which was one of the top 20 best-reviewed comedy shows of EdFringe 2023. She co-hosts the comedy podcast Queers Gone By, which The Guardian dubbed one of the world’s funniest podcasts.
