Wuthering Heights (1847), by Emily Brontë, is considered one of the greatest literary classics due to a long list of reasons. One of these reasons is its masterful representation 2 of the social class and background of their characters through their dialects and characteristics of their speech. Nevertheless, the vast majority of translations into Catalan and Spanish ignore the enormous load of information contained in those dialectal expressions. This article starts by exploring the use and relevance of dialect inside the novel and the diverse methodologies of dialectal translations. Taking into consideration the researched material and the acquired knowledge, I could elaborate a series of criteria that would then be used for the real purpose of the project: the production of a translation proposal for Joseph’s interventions in Wuthering Heights in Catalan and Spanish that is accurate in both its linguistic expression and its orthographic representation.
