This work proposes a commented translation of six poems by writer Emily Brontë (1818-1848) into Portuguese. As a result, an approach is made to the translations of Brontëan poetry inserted in the Brazilian literary system – of which three published poems are analyzed; and a brief study of part of the poetic work written by the writer/poet is carried out, in its features and contexts of production. The selection of poems included texts that explore existential themes: loneliness, the passage of time, the desire for freedom and the representation of death – recurring elements in the author's poems. The research is justified due to the small number of research and translation proposals related to Brontëan poetry (if related to productions intended for the writer's only novel) and the absence of commented translations about it in the country. The translation proposal is divided into: translation of poems not yet brought into the language (The picture, High Waving Heather 'Neath Stormy Blasts Bending, and The Caged Bird); and retranslation of the poems Self-Interrogation, Tell me, tell me, smiling child e That Dreary Lake, that Moonlight Sky. The translation procedures in this work are based on Berman (2013), Laranjeira (2003) e Britto (2006). In addition to these authors, the considerations of Torres (2017) about commented translation will be used.
