The Banagher Brontë Group will host a special event commemorating Charlotte Brontë's 209th birthday on Saturday, April 26, 2025. This celebration will explore local connections to the famous novelist and her husband, Arthur Bell Nicholls, who honeymooned in Banagher in July 1854.

Gathering and carpooling arrangements for field trip

1:45 PM - 5:00 PM - Field Trip to Brontë-related sites
Shannon Harbour, Shannonbridge, Meelick Weir Walkway, Victoria Lock, Eyrecourt
These locations represent places Arthur Bell Nicholls would have shown Charlotte during their honeymoon in 1854

5:00 PM - 6:30 PM - Literary Readings at Hough's Pub (New Snug)
Open mic format featuring readings by, on, or about the Brontës of Haworth and the Bells of Banagher
All attendees welcome to participate

Recital by the Banagher Brontë Ensemble
The ensemble has received an €800 grant to support their growing repertoire of period-appropriate music

The group will hold additional events in 2025, including:
August 15-18: Heritage Week celebration in Tullamore focusing on Brontë connections to County Offaly
November 29-30: Commemoration of Arthur Bell Nicholls' 119th anniversary
