Several news outlets, such as Daily Mail, are reporting (quite gleefully, too) how Margot Robbie got 'roasted' on X over the pictures of her as Cathy in a wedding dress. Since the people criticising her are--in spite of what they may believe--no experts, we won't be quoting their wise words. Also in The Independent, The Mirror, Perth Now, etc. We have to quote this bit from News.com.au, though, which shows just how everybody and their dog are claiming to be experts on a novel they may have seen from afar at most:
While Bronte’s novel doesn’t include specific dates and ages. . . (Nick Bond)
The novel literally begins with a date: 1801. Isn't that specific enough? That said, Emerald Fennell may have wanted to change the time period, who knows at this point with the information we have? Can we make it uncool to criticise an entire film by a glimpse of an actress in a scene or the casting decisions behind it, please?
