A part in celebrating the legacy of the extraordinary Brontë family

Fine Books and Collections features the campaign to Save the Brontë Birthplace.

Funds are still needed to install a kitchen for the planned café, the bedrooms where the sisters slept (to be used as holiday accommodation for tourists), and educational plans as pat of a community arts, culture, heritage and education resource.

"The former parsonage at Thornton, where the famous Brontë siblings were born, played a significant part in the family’s story," said Ann Dinsdale, Principal Curator, Brontë Parsonage Museum. "The house is currently inaccessible to admirers of the Brontës and the general public alike. It feels important that it should be preserved and play a part in celebrating the legacy of the extraordinary Brontë family. The Brontë Society, who run the Brontë Parsonage Museum, fully support this project to save the Brontë Birthplace for the community." (Alex Johnson)

The York Press reports that writer Joanne Harris is planning a Readers' Retreat at The Grand, York.

Guests will have the chance to explore the wild and windswept Yorkshire Moors, where Emily Brontë penned the timeless masterpiece, Wuthering Heights and discover the gothic atmosphere of Whitby Abbey, the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s much loved novel Dracula. (Darren Greenwood)

Surten al llibre en diverses ocasions, cosa que em fa molt feliç. Són autores que feien, en el seu moment, una de les coses més difícils de fer, explicar les problemàtiques de les dones del seu voltant, des de la seva veu, i des del punt de vista, molts cops, de dones en posicions subalternes. Les protagonistes són dones que no estan en una posició econòmica bona. Potser tampoc són l’exemple d’una classe treballadora sense accés a educació. Ho fan de maneres molt diferents. Des del drama, però també des de la tendresa i l’humor. Sent conscients d’en quin moment viuen, tenen la valentia d’alçar la veu i explicar les coses. Elles diuen que no és veritat allò que estan explicant els autors de les dones de la seva generació. Avui en dia encara les pots seguir llegint i segueixen batallant per coses que batallem encara avui dia. És insuportable, però és molt universal. Ens fa adonar que hem avançat en algunes coses, però que hi ha una part del patriarcat que encara no hem desmuntat del tot. (Xavier Puig i Sedano) (Translation)
