The 2023 Brontë Society Conference takes place this weekend in Leeds:
Sat 9 Sep 9:00am - 5:00pm
Royal Armouries Museum, Armouries Dr, Leeds LS10 1LT, UK

This year, the Museum’s programme of events and activities centres around The Brontës and the Wild, a special exhibition that explores and celebrates all things connected with our landscape, a landscape inextricably linked with the Brontës: animals, habitats, trees, flowers, foliage, weather, and more.

The Brontë Society's one-day conference - ‘How beautiful the earth is still’ - will respond to the Brontë Parsonage Museum's 'year of the wild', drawing on the theme of the natural world and engaging with both the literal landscapes that the Brontës knew and the symbolic landscapes of their novels and poetry.

We are delighted to announce Simon Warner as our keynote speaker. Simon is a landscape photographer and filmmaker and has been involved in a number of projects with the Brontë Parsonage Museum. Simon’s keynote will address, among other things, Top Withins’ place in the popular imagination, and promises to be a visual feast. We are also excited by a recent addition to the programme - Principal Curator Ann Dinsdale and Sharon Wright (author of The Mother of the Brontës) will be joining us to present a joint paper detailing their research to date for a new book on places associated with the Brontës.
